I am looking a lot forward to speak at the Future Tech 2026 in Utrecht, Netherlands on March 10-11!

My session is on how Cloud App & Infra Observability casts silver bullets. Admidetly this title is a bit of a mouthfull, but I like to try to create catch titles like that. Here is my session description:

“Application observability in the Azure Cloud has made recent significant advancement with AI and with new core governance capabilities. This session is about the silver bullet mould – a great way toward cloud excellence, and at both regular and enterprise scale.
The Cloud promised pay-per-use, global business reach, green applications, and full security – easy, fast, and cheap – right! Right? Application Developers and IT-Engineers are accountable for being in control, steering, and scaling everything just right, preferably with full automation.
At the IKEA Cloud Engineering department, I help oversee the corporate cloud platform where we offer guidance on how to live in the cloud and how to live up to the long list of workload owner responsibilities. We assist and guide in modernization, migration, and in optimization of the cloud estate within the enterprise. We know that it starts with an unassuming thing – observability.
Developing observable application code, configuring infrastructure resource diagnostics, collecting the right logs and metrics, storing them properly, transforming data into insights, and pinpointing problems. No cloud-rewards may be reaped unless you lay the correct observable-groundwork. Without observing how a workload is doing it is unknown if it is secured, well-performing, or cost optimized. Being a highly specialized skill – observing applications in the cloud – it is evident that the business requires a silver bullet foundry and they will win through investing in training, proper guidance, and learning in this area. It is the path that leads to streamlining operations at scale.
Join a Cloud Architect Engineer – on a mission to cloud enable customers since the dawn of the public cloud – and learn about Service Groups, diagnostics best practices, health modelling, and more! While a fleet of cloud applications might be good, this session is about becoming great.”

It will be a blast to return to the Netherlands and meet up with my good friends there, and to speak at a local conference. Always good to hang with the community, so this should be great!

ESPC 2025 in Dublin

My first time visit to Irealand will be to speak at the excellent conference ESPC in Dublin on December 1-4 2025.

ESPC is Europe’s premier Microsoft 365 and AI conference and brings together leading experts and professionals from the Microsoft 365 and AI world. Star line up of speakers, the latest and greatest session content and workshops, lots of networking and even party fun. What’s not to like!? Attending will help you stay up-to-date on industry trends like AI transformation.

My session will be about Advanced Azure Architecture, which does sound like a bit of a mouthful as a conference topic. And it is. What I want to do is bring up as many classic cloud challenges as I might given that the session is only one hour. Maybe I could talk about this for a few days if given the opportunity, but most would probably be bored before I run out of things to talk about. I have consulted with enterprises and government organizations for quite some years now and have presently fourteen Azure MVP titles in my baggage. This is what I do – help my customers cloud become better – and in so doing, there are always some challenges that come back again and again in most every customer case. THAT is what my session is about!

Azure Dev Summit 2025

I really hope I get to see you all at the new Microsoft and community conference Azure Dev Summit, in Portugal on October 13 – 16, 2025! It is going to be a super event with all the experts speaking about Azure, .NET, and Microsoft AI.

A new conference in Europe for the dev-crowd in the cloud – HOW COOL IS THAT! I don’t want to be the one to say “I am supere-exited”, but I really am!

Techorama Belgium 2025

The Techorama conferences are most certainly best of breed when it comes to tech conferences in Europe. This year I was fortuante to speak at Techorama Belgium 2025 about brand hew Microsoft features that are (finally) in public preview. My session was “Application Centric Observability in the Cloud”.

I have been following the Azure Monitoring team for a very long time, in fact since it was started quite a few years ago in 2018 at Microsoft Ignite.

The news I spoke about consist of two things: 1) Service Groups a new Core Azure Platform governance feature. This allows you to group together instances of resources and relate them to one another in a diagram. This information is then persisted to the Azure Platform and for the first time Azure now understands what resources makes up your application for you. 2) Azure Monitoring Health Models are built to use the new Service Groups feature. The Health Model understands what your application Service Group is and can help you monitor and undrestand any application problems.

I have spoken about Monitoring in Azure for a long time. Trying to remember for how long, I came across this old presentation deck where I, lo and behold, spoke about several things including... Monitoring!

It was an absolute pleasure to speak at Techorama, I recommend it to anyone, and I hope to speak there again in the future.

Hello there and welcome to be the STAR in an episode of my podcast the Cloud Show!

All you need is a single topic to discuss for twenty minutes and the lime light will be all yours!

This is a weekly live podcast featuring a conversation on one specific topic per episode, with a carefully balanced and concentrated format. This provides a valuable yet focused insight from an industry specialist and makes it easy for you – the STAR of the episode – to appear because the whole thing only takes thirty minutes (30) in your calendar!

The goal of your episode is for You to share with the world, something important, passionate, and/or top of mind, that you know is relevant for a “leader in a Cloud Project” to hear! Of course a topic can bee deeply technical and wonderfully geeky. It can also be on adjacent matters, such as project management, team building, or personal health. Given the limited time of an episode, detailed demos are not in scope. That said, a lot of goodness can be shared in the time alotted and the show will not be filled with a lot of extra content. To the point, so to say!

The CloudBrew community conference in Belgium is always great! Happy to speak this year. It is a two-day event hosted by the Belgium Microsoft Azure User Group AZUG.

The event takes place in Mechelen, Belgium, on Thursday and Friday December 12 – 13, 2024.

My session is about lessons learned from using public cloud in public sector scenarios. There are so many things to talk about on this topic that one day even would not be enough, let alone one session. However, I will cover some of the major topics and challenges in this area. I think it is quite important to discuss the hardships and difficulties openly and honestly so that we as an industry can approach synergy in terms of handling the situation and have forward (upward) progress to the cloud for this sector.

ESPC 2024

The amazing ESPC conference, this time in Stockholm on December 2 – 5, 2024!

Happy to be there and speak about “Beyond quick’n dirty cloud to agile, cheap, and fast”.

ESPC is always a great show and Stockholm will be true to form. I love my capital city which will be all made up in Christmas shroud welcoming a couple of thousand attendees, speakers, and sponsors.

It is my great pleasure to serve as programme chair for the conference along side my good friend Maarten Ekels, and with the incredible Luise Freese, Paolo Pialorsi, and Merethe Stave. Together we have had the painful pleasure of selecting a super-star lineup of speakers and sessions, while of course also needing to say no to many more great submissions. We could have made three ESPCs with all the smashing sessions submitted. After the difficult selection process we came up with something truly special for ESPC 2024, and we hope and trust you will enjoy it!

My own session will be about application centric observability in the cloud where I will be talking about how to view all the resources, compute, paas services, and more that make up your application as ONE thing that you can observe and measure as a unit.

Microsoft Experience Day Guatemala 2024

It was an excellent event in Guatemala where I spoke at the Microsoft Experience Day (https://med.gt/).

“El Microsoft Experience Day regresó para presentar las últimas innovaciones de la industria tecnológica” => “Microsoft Experience Day returned to showcase the latest innovations in the tech industry”.

Together with my good friend Oscar Garcia Colon from Allied Global.

I talked about “Responsibilidad, transparencia y manejo de otros aspectos éticos dela IA” which means accountability, transparency, and handling of other ethical aspects of AI.

I wish I was able to deliver this in Spanish, but alas – I did it in English.

It was so good to see the Central American tech scene while I was visiting the country. It was my first visit to Guatemala and it was quite special to see the country guided by local amazing people.

Swetugg Gothenburg 2024

It was a pleasure to speak at Swetugg Gothenburg 2024 (2024-09-16 - -17) on “Lessons learned from public sector cloud implementations”!

My talk, more of a conversation really, is about about the specific challenges on the cloudy road for Public Sector Sweden! How is Public Sector going about reaching for those cloud promises; Agile/fast, secure, compliant, and pay-per-use. Same as anyone Public Sector also wants to use modern AI services which are all in the cloud. No cloud, no AI!

Among the challenges associated with adopting a cloud approach are governance, managing partner and supplier relationships, ensuring security and compliance, transitioning skills, planning for change, and developing a proper strategy. My session is a run-down of the bold steps that will set you on a straighter path directly to the cloud!

I am so proud to know the great community enthusiasts of the Swetugg Team. They organise some of the best technical conferences in Sweden, and they are themselves some of the best technical speakers in Sweden. This is how you create great community conferences with a wonderful experience for both speakers and of course the audience. You have speakers organise them! Speakers know what it takes and have a wide range of experiences from many different conferences. So when you see a bunch of speakers organise a conference – that’s a conference you will want to attend, because you just _know_ it is going to be great!

Such a great first time event and happy to keynote the Premier .NET & AI conference in Tunisia: Tunisia DevDays!

DevSum 2024

I am speaking at DevSum 2024 in Stockholm on May 16-17, 2024.

My session this time is a “lessons learned” topic, and I am very excited to talk about it. Currently, I am helping public sector customers with their approach to cloud. There are, as I am sure you expect multiple interesting challenges with moving something of this size, this heavily regulated, and with considerable legacy IT and applications. It is challenging and rewarding to be a part of large transformation stories and there are many things to consider in public sector that are not of equal importance in the private sector.

DevSum

DevSum has a 20th anniversary this year, which is an impressive feat by Cornerstone the organizer. The conference is always very well organized and it draws a big crowd from near and far. The speaker lineup this year is, as every year, excellent! It will be an awesome show!

My session: Lessons learned from public sector cloud implementations

“It is time to talk about the specific challenges on the cloudy road ahead! It may feel intimidating, daunting, with a real risk of missing the target or not gaining the full benefit of the cloud-move. The cloud promises; Agile/fast, secure, compliant, and pay-per-use. Not to mention all those new AI services – they are all in the cloud. No cloud, no AI!

Right now, the Swedish public sector is in fact moving to the cloud. For many years, the situation was rather locked by compliance, security, and data sovereignty matters.

Over a decade after the introduction of cloud computing, the public sector in Sweden is finally beginning to migrate services that contain citizen data and/or are classified as nationally critical infrastructure to the cloud.

Among the challenges associated with adopting a cloud approach are governance, managing partner and supplier relationships, ensuring security and compliance, transitioning skills, planning for change, and developing a proper strategy.
